CAN NEW & EXISTING TEAMS GET THEIR APPLICATION IN TO THE LEAGUE BY 1st MAY 2008

The Croydon Sunday Football League is looking to expand and is in need of new players, new teams and more referees (qualified refs and people wishing to become referees).

Anyone looking to join a team can either browse through the Club directory link on the left and contact the Secretary of a side they would like to (vacancy permitting) join or alternatively emai csflresults@f2s.com giving a brief profile of yourself (standard/age/position etc..) and a contact number/email address which teams can contact you on.

New teams can show their interest in joining for the 2008/9 Season now by contacting Jimmy Vigh on 07968 040425 or 020 8645 9999 or by emailing csflresults@f2s.com. The application form for new Clubs can be downloaded below. With the exception of a few teams who may play on private pitches, games are generally played on Council pitches, the most popular being Purley Way (map link) or Duppas Hill (map link). Games generally kick-off at 10.30am.

As an idea of start-up costs, Club membership to the League is £110.00 per year, affiliation to Surrey FA is approx. £130.00 per year, a complete kit is approx. £200.00 (but shop around for this), pitch permits from Croydon Council is approx. £500.00 per year (this pays for 14 home pitches & you do not pay for away games) - ALL APPLICATIONS RECEIVED BY 1ST MAY FOR THE FORTHCOMING SEASON WILL QUALIFY FOR CONCESSIONS ON PITCH FEES. Referees are currently paid £30.00 per game (the home team pays the ref except for Cup games). You will also need balls, nets and corner flags if you use Council pitches, so in all it will cost approx. £1000.00+ to start a team from scratch which is an important factor to consider but if you play 25 games it works out to £40.00 per game. Sponsorship, a generous benefactor or a pool of players splitting the costs will make this fairly achievable. This is one of the cheapest Leagues to enter.

As well as League games, there are 2 League knock-out competitions as well as a Surrey FA knock-out competition and with the occasional friendly, teams should play approx 25 games in a season (September to April) - some teams have managed 40 games!!
We are looking for all standard of teams. Very good sides, not bad sides and even teams of poor standard who just want a kickabout are welcome. Pre-season grading games will be arranged to determine which division new teams are placed in, so as to hopefully achieve an even standard in each division. We can arrange for potential new teams to play a friendly against a team with a 'bye' week in the current season if possible.

Referees and anyone wishing to become a Referee are in urgent need to referee Sunday morning games and anyone interested should contact Shirley Leyland on 020 8668 7897 or 07984 746850 or by email sley469844@aol.com for more information. Referees are paid £30.00 per game. If you would like to become a qualified Referee the League may pay your course fees (subject to a commitment) so you can attend the course spanning 5 Tuesdays plus an exam evening (usually Thursday). I understand the next course is in September.
